Blue Flag award to Agios Isidoros beach
The Municipality of Lesvos is responsible to comply with all requirements for maintaining the Blue Flag award, but unfortunately have not discharged their obligations the last two years, thus risking the withdrawal of the Blue Flag from the awarded beaches of the island.
Among the Municipalities’ obligations is the employment of qualified life guards and, for their failure to do so, the Hellenic Coast Guard imposes heavy fines every week.
Plomari Forum, in cooperation with several entities of the area, involved in tourism, have done whatever was possible for maintaining the Blue Flag award for the current and next year.
Besides the life guard issue, they constructed wooden corridor for the access of the handicapped to the beach, printed and posted the necessary information for the swimmers, the floor of the cabins has been tiled and the cleaning of the beach is supported.
The companies which cooperate with Plomari Forum for maintaining the award will be announced in due course.
Ending this announcement, we are glad to advice you that Agios Isidoros beach has successfully passed the inspection, by Hellenic Company for the Protection of the Environment, on 6/8/2014 and we are expecting their written report after their summer holidays.
More information on the Blue Flag Awards may be found at http://eepf.gr/el/blueflag .
We also urge young people of our area to be trained as life guards. Such training will enable them to save people at risk of drowning and with many chances to be employed for life guard duties on the island, where about a dozen of life guards are needed each summer and only couple of them are available. Those who are interested to be trained to contact Plomari Forum for organizing the training and negotiating the training fees with the qualified trainer.
