Training of local youngsters as beach lifeguards

During the summer 2014, the  Blue Flag has been withdrawn from beaches in Lesvos and many other areas in Greece, because the responsible local authorities had not employed lifeguards for those beaches.

Plomari Forum, in cooperation with local hotel owners and shopkeepers, hardly managed to make necessary arrangements and maintain the Blue Flag for the beach of Agios Isidoros. During those efforts, it had been also found out the non availability of qualified lifeguards to cover the required positions at Lesvos beaches.

Plomari Forum is pleased to announce that has coordinated and supported the training of youngsters from our area to be trained as beach lifeguards, who have received their diplomas earlier this week. Couple of them need to be also qualified for the operation of speed boat (salvege boat), according to the Coast Guard regulations, which will be also coordinated by Plomari Forum in due course.

It is now left with the new municipality authorities to proceed with the necessary arrangements in time for the employment of lifeguards, so that the island beaches to be safe for the swimmers and some youngsters to secure employment, even seasonal one.
